10 Books I Re-read Regularly

by Esther Elizabeth Suson

I was challenged by Frankie, and even though I have quite a blog backlog, I did this one first because I thrilled to the idea. My criteria: books that I can read in any mood, at any time, and still enjoy like it’s the first time.

Okay honestly, I’ve been drafting this blog for about a week now. It’s so hard to tell the whole of why I re-read these, so I won’t tell even the half of it. Enjoy.

The Winter Prince by Elizabeth Wein

For the (brotherly, non-romantic) love story between Medraut and his younger half-brother, Crown Prince Lleu. It’s the first book of her Arthurian-Aksumite series.

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein

It’s like being in love, discovering your best friend.

The Raven  Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

Ronan Lynch and Stiefvater’s wordplay.

Gansey had once told Adam that he was afraid most people didn’t know how to handle Ronan. What he meant by this was that he was worried that one day someone would fall on Ronan and cut themselves.

The Runner by Cynthia Voigt

Barbarian White and Civilized Black.

[Racism not intended and matches the book context. Vietnam War era].

Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson

Talking sword + irreverent god + my favorite romantic love story.

H.M.S. Ulysses by Alistair MacLean

Fast Russian Convoy vs. U-boat wolfpacks.

Also transcendent humanity but that is definitely TL;DR.

The Last Frontier by Alistair MacLean

It is set in Communist Hungary, early Cold War (think Man from U.N.C.L.E. era).

The intolerance of ignorance, not wanting to know – that is the last real frontier left on earth.

Stalky & Co. by Rudyard Kipling

Schoolboys kicking each other to show dissent.

 stalky and co

Tokyo Vice by Jake Adelstein

Yakuza.

[They’re the organized crime groups in Japan].

Flyboys by James Bradley

The history of Imperialist Japan to the end of World War II.

There, that was extremely difficult! I love each book so much that I would have whole paragraphs down before I could stop myself. As you can see, it turned into extreme minimalism. Enjoy!
